Kahakai o Hanauma

02/26/2010 - Aloha!  One of the best places to stop and take a break when you are circling the island is Hanauma Bay.  This ancient volcanic caldera teems with sea life thanks to its protected surroundings.  The bay was once the floor of a small volcanic crater, but it eventually became flooded by the ocean when a portion of its wall collapsed.  Now, it is a heavily used beach by tourists.  However, on this day, the beach was empty because of an influx of box jellyfish.  They usually show up a couple of days after a full moon and scare the tourists away.  Enjoy!
