02/26/2008 - Aloha!
Along the wall at Kaumalapau Harbor is a primary vertical benchmark
used for tide calibration and height measurement. It is well
marked, with the "BM" designation and elevation value etched in stone.
I wonder if they will etch a new elevation when the tidal epoch
changes in the future? Every 19 years, NOAA (NGS) recalibrates
elevation readings to account for sea level and tidal change. I
guess we will find out in 2020. Enjoy!
