01/30/2005 - Aloha!
Last Friday, I got to ride a helicopter over O'ahu for
about two hours. I was "GPS-ing" streams for the Army in the north
central portion of the island. I was tasked to GPS the streams as the
helicopter flew over, and then identify potential wetland locations
for detailed field investigation. It was pretty cool, as this was my
first trip in a helicopter.
On the way back to the airport, we flew directly over
Pearl Harbor, and I snapped this photo of Ford Island. As you history
buffs know, Ford Island was one of the primary airstrips for the Navy
in Pearl Harbor during WWII. The airstrip is no longer used (moved to
Hickam AFB). Look for more helicopter photos in the coming days.
