Ford Island

01/30/2005 - Aloha!  Last Friday, I got to ride a helicopter over O'ahu for about two hours. I was "GPS-ing" streams for the Army in the north central portion of the island. I was tasked to GPS the streams as the helicopter flew over, and then identify potential wetland locations for detailed field investigation. It was pretty cool, as this was my first trip in a helicopter.

On the way back to the airport, we flew directly over Pearl Harbor, and I snapped this photo of Ford Island. As you history buffs know, Ford Island was one of the primary airstrips for the Navy in Pearl Harbor during WWII. The airstrip is no longer used (moved to Hickam AFB). Look for more helicopter photos in the coming days. Enjoy!
